If you are coming from the USA, it is quite possible you have never heard of the Honda BR-V. The mini SUV manufactured by Honda is assembled in Thailand, Indonesia and India, and it is sold in several countries of South and South-East Asia. At the moment the Japanese automaker doesn’t intend to launch this mini SUV on the North American market since it specially designed for South-East Asians. Their needs differ than needs of the citizens of the US. BR-V stands for Bold Runabout Vehicle, and its production started in 2015. Launching was scheduled for 2016, and it was released in Indonesia, India and the Philippines. The 2018 Honda BR-V is already on its way hence today we will discuss more the upcoming model.
2018 Honda BR-V Price and Release Date
Reportedly, the new model of the mini SUV will be presented in Shanghai even though this was not the case last year. One thing is certain, though – the end of 2017 will release it. The only question is where. Besides Shanghai, it may even be released in the Philippines or India. Regarding price, it will be one of the cheapest SUVs on the market. All things considered, the BR-V is definitely worth its price.
Honda BR-V Review
A three-row mini SUV is great for those who are looking for the vehicle with more than five seats. In the US it is next to impossible to find it. However, it shares lots of parts with Pilot thus you may consider purchasing this vehicle. The main difference is the price. Since Pilot is more expensive, it targets the American customers while his little brother is designed for those who are on a tight budget. There won’t be any significant modifications since the first model was released last year. However, refreshments are welcomed, and there are already speculations about them.
Under the Hood
When it comes to the powertrain of the Honda BR-V 2018, it is expected to inherit engines of the current model. This means the 2018 model will have two engines in the lineup. One of the engines is a 1.5-liter i-VTEC four-cylinder gasoline. It comes with an output of 118 horsepower and 107 lb-ft of torque. The transmission system is optional, and it is mated to either six-speed manual or CVT transmission.
On the other hand, the second choice is a 1.5-liter Earth Dreams i-DTEC inline-4 turbodiesel. It delivers similar output as the other unit, and it has the same transmission options. At the moment there are no estimations about fuel consumption, but it will be definitely better than Pilots. The reason lies in the market. The target market is less rich than the American thus they need to produce vehicles with high fuel efficiency. Other engines are not expected, but who knows what is on the mind of Honda engineers.
Exterior and Interior Review of Honda BR-V 2018
The 2018 Honda BR-V is coming in two variants: two-row and three-row variant. All those who opt for three rows and seven seats will find a lack of legroom in the third row. Although there won’t be many changes, the new model will look more aggressive than the original. It is coming with more sharp lines and wider headlights. Air intakes are in the same places as before, and we don’t expect grille to be changed. The rear part also should remain the same as well as the length and width of the vehicle. As far as we are concerned Honda may consider enlarging it for a few inches to increase the convenience of the passengers.
Even though the 2018 Honda BR-V is quite cheap comparing to other vehicles in the class, its safety systems are on a high level. Some of the features are ABS, dual SRS airbags, hill-start assist and EBD.
