You may be wondering what is Genesis and how come you haven’t heard of 2017 Genesis G90 model before. Genesis is Hyundai’s response on growing market of luxury cars. Almost all car manufacturers have their own either luxury-car subsidiaries or luxurious models: Lexus, Infiniti, Acura, etc. The South Korean manufacturer decided it is the right time to launch its own model.
As a result, we have 2017 Genesis G90. However, this is not the only announced model in Genesis family. In the near future, we can models to be released: Genesis G80, Genesis G70, Genesis Z70 and Genesis Z80. There is absolutely no information about any of these four models thus we will focus on the G90. Much of the details we’ve got haven’t been confirmed by Hyundai but we managed to pick up many things through the grapevine.
Some details leaked since Hyundai can’t keep everything off the record. Styling is great (even though it doesn’t have a sunroof) but competence in this field is getting stronger year by year hence there is a question if there’s enough space for one more company.
2017 Genesis G90 Exterior
Hyundai hasn’t manufactured any luxury sedan and the 2017 Genesis G90 is going to be the very first. Exterior design is based on Athletic Elegance Styling design. It resembles luxury cars designed by Mercedes-Benz. Rear part will have two exhaust tips and uniquely designed taillights.
The front grille is huge and comes with a winged emblem in the center. LED headlights will definitely be placed at the front while there’s a minor possibility of having LED daytime running lights. Unfortunately, this is all we know regarding the outlook of the G90. There are numerous rumors but we didn’t want to take them into consideration.
Genesis G90 Interior
The 2017 Genesis G90 is almost as big as the S-class. It’s equipped with the most luxurious materials and top-notch technology. All seats are wrapped in expensive Italian leather and are quite comfortable. Technology is outstanding.
Wireless phone charging isn’t often used in cars since it’s the cutting edge technology and the G90 is going to be among the first. Other hi-tech features are triple-zone climate control, Lexicon Premium acoustic system, driver alertness, adaptive headlights and much more. There will even be a semi-autonomous highway mode.
Engine and Specs
The design of 2017 Genesis G90 is exceptional but looks aren’t everything. According to one source engine lineup is going to be consisted of two units. The first one is a well-known 5.0l Tau eight-cylinder. Hyundai implemented this engine in several models and it delivered the goods. With 420 HP and 383 lb-ft of torque, it must meet demands of all potential customers. Rear-wheel drive comes with this powertrain but AWD is optional. It’s paired with 8-speed automatic but unfortunately, EPA rating hasn’t been published yet.
Unlike the first choice, the second one is going to be a brand-new. Hyundai developed a new engine, particularly for the 2017 Genesis G90. A 3.3l twin-turbocharged six-cylinder completes the lineup. Both of these engines use same fuel and have similar output. The 3.3l is able to deliver 365 HP and 376 lb-ft of torque. This unit is actually less powerful but it is believed that fuel consumption will be outstanding. As well as the first choice the second one comes with two driving options and is mated to 8-speed automatic gearbox. At this moment, we can’t tell which one is a better choice since we don’t have EPA ratings.
Release Date and Price
The official price hasn’t been released yet but our estimation is it won’t cost under $50,000. Don’t be surprised if the price exceeds $70,000. Similarly to the price, the release date is not known. However, all our sources tell that new 2017 Genesis G90 should hit the market sometime this year.
Update: The official announcement was released that the Genesis G90 will have complementary services to attract more potential customers to the model. The services will include scheduled complementary services for three years or 36.000 miles, also there will be included engine oil and oil filter changes, tire rotations as well as air filter replacements. This will help set Korean manufacturer apart from the competition giving the customers the opportunity to schedule a service appointment and have their vehicle picked up by a service valet at a time and location that they choose.
