2018 Mercedes AMG E63 and AMG S Price

With the release of the new E-Class, Mercedes also released the new 2018 Mercedes AMG E63 and AMG S. Both versions sport an updated engine with a lot of other upgrades over the regular car. However, none of them has the engine everyone expected but more on that later. The car is based on Mercedes’ brand new platform, and it sports plenty of weight saving features.

It is longer than the previous model, and it also sports a longer wheelbase. So far Mercedes hasn’t released a long wheelbase version, and it doesn’t look like they are going to release one anytime soon. The AMG also received a rather interesting engine and plenty of another kit to make it as interesting as it gets.

Even though it sports a lighter weight chassis, the new AMG is up to 40 pounds heavier than its predecessor. This is because it sports more active safety systems on board and most of the gear is heavier. This doesn’t mean its performance is worse, though. In fact, the new Mercedes AMG E63 2018 is one of the fastest sedans around, and it is considerably faster than its predecessor. On top of that, they also released a wagon version which happens to be the fastest in the World by a rather big margin. The new model starts at just under $100,000 with the higher end S version going for $105,000. At a price, it doesn’t really have a competitor, especially with all the gear and performance upgrades Mercedes installed.

Design

There is no question about the fact the 2018 Mercedes AMG E63 is a classy muscle car. With all that extra performance they didn’t want it to look too out of place. In fact, the changes have been kept to a minimum over a base car, at least for an untrained eye. There are subtly flared wheel arches in the front, larger air intakes that house multiple radiators and cooling ducts for its brakes as well as a new grille. The hood has a subtle bulge while the headlights are unique. In the back, the AMG features a rather subdued quad-exhaust system, a hidden diffuser and that’s about it. The rest of the car is quite restrained which is where the cool factor comes in. The E63 is one of the most unassuming cars in its class, and that is always a great thing, especially with a $100,000 high-performance sedan.

Interior

No surprise here. The 2018 Mercedes AMG E63 features all the kit we expected and more. It features a three-spoke aluminum steering wheel wrapped in leather. The dashboard, center stack, the front seats’ inserts as well as the rear buttons are all covered in real aluminum. Over a regular E-Class, it features the unique steering wheel, sports Recaro front seats and all the usual extras as standard. The dual 12-inch screens are offered on the base AMG. The only real option worth mentioning are the Recaro seats which are only available as a pair extra on both AMG models.

Under the Hood of Mercedes AMG E63 2018

The older car had a 5.5 liter V8 offering more than enough power for its class. However, this wasn’t really up to date, so Mercedes had to do something about it. This means the 2018 Mercedes AMG E63 features a smaller 4 liter AMG-built twin-turbocharged V8. This is a very similar unit to that found in the AMG GT. However, in the E-Class, it now makes 563 horsepower and 550 lb-ft of torque which is actually more than pretty much any other car sporting this engine.

Thanks to it the car will get to 62 MPH from a standing start in just 3.5 seconds with a limited top speed of 155 MPH. The higher end AMG S E63 bumps the output to 604 horsepower and 630 lb-ft of torque. This is on par with the best in its class. With it, the car will accelerate to 62 MPH in just 3.3 seconds with a limited top speed of 186 MPH. The performance has been achieved thanks to an all new nine-speed automatic which sends the power to all four wheels. The new 4Matic+ system has a complex torque vectoring system which can send as much as 100% of the torque to the rear wheels. Unfortunately, a rear wheel drive model only is not going to be available anytime soon.
