2018 Subaru XV Concept Release Date

A few months ago Subaru released the XV concept car which showcases a lot of the technology that will eventually be offered on most of Subaru’s cars. So far many thought that the car was just a concept. However, it now seems that this may be false. Why? Well, it seems that the 2018 Subaru XV is going to be based on this concept.

Also, it will be the first car to use Subaru’s new modular platform which should eventually underpin all of their vehicles. Not much else has been said about this new car, officially at least, but it seems it will be a game changer for them.

The platform the new Subaru XV 2018 is going to use will be similar to what the current Impreza has. However, it will use a lot more modular parts as well as lighter and stronger materials. Most of the floor pan and chassis components are going to be made out of high strength steel. However, some suspension parts as well as likely engine mounted and even the structure of the car could use aluminum. Thanks to all of these the new XV might shed as much as 200 pounds of weight. Also, this type of construction will make for a more rigid car than before which will also have better NVH levels.

2018 SUBARU XV PRICE AND RELEASE DATE

The upcoming 2018 Subaru XV Crosstrek is expected to be launched in 2017. Its price has been said to increase by around $500 across the range. This would make the base car cost around $24,000. This would still be quite good and especially so for its class. However, while the car will be sold as a crossover, it will have a lot more in common with a hatchback. The new XV will be the hatchback version of the future Impreza with half an inch added to its height and bulky plastic inserts on the outside.

There is very little information about the final look of the car. However, it seems that it will borrow quite a bit from the latest concept. The front end should get the same boomerang headlights with the vertical fog lamps while at the back the angular design will definitely be used. This creates a really nice balance on the car which makes it look great.

EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR

Unfortunately, while most of its exterior and chassis will be all new, we can’t say that about its interior. So far Subaru hasn’t said a word about it, and we are concerned that the gray sea of materials will be back here. However, if Subaru will finally take a look at the competitors, then we should receive something a lot more impressive for the upcoming 2018 Subaru XV. It should get not only better materials but also a more modern and easier to use layout than before.

ENGINE

Currently, there are a rather old, and slow, 2 liters naturally aspirated flat-four powering the XV. The upcoming model might be Subaru’s first car to use a new engine. This has been rumored for a long time now, and it seems to be a small 1.6-liter flat-four with a turbocharger. While not official, it seems that it may offer 200 horsepower and 200 lb-ft of torque, the latter from just 2,000 rpm.
This engine will eventually be found in most of their models, but until then, the XV will be the first to get it. Not much else has been said about it. However, it seems that it may become around 10 to 15% more efficient than the older 2-liter unit. This would be possible thanks to an improved CVT gearbox. For those wanting a bit more involvement, a six-speed manual is also a real possibility.
