2018 Toyota Yaris Interior, Price and Release Date

The current Yaris has been released back in 2010, so we expect an all new version from Toyota. However, this didn’t happen. Instead the newly revealed 2018 Toyota Yaris is mostly identical to its predecessor. The engine is the same as before while the interior has been slightly revised. The largest change is the exterior which received a closer look to Toyota’s other vehicles. Even though it is getting dated, the new Yaris is still an excellent choice for those looking to get a cheap way of transport. It is one of the most reliable compact cars on the market, and its chassis is not that bad considering the price. The only real drawback remains the powertrain which is one of the worst on the market in terms of power delivery.

2018 Toyota Yaris Price and Release Date

The car has been released a couple of months back, and it isn’t all that different. For starters, it shares its design scheme with the GRMN Yaris that was first released in Europe. The car still comes in the same trim levels as before. There is the base “L” version which gets only the essential features. The mid-range “LE” adds a few things into the mix for not much more money, so it is the better choice from the two. The top end remains the “SE” which is the sporty version of the car.

Unfortunately, besides the capable chassis, both the steering and the powertrain really let it down which is a real shame. Even so, most people should be more than happy with the new 2018 Toyota Yaris. Even though in essence it is the same as before, the materials inside have been considerably improved, and there is a fair amount of extra features which should please its customers. The mildly facelifted Toyota Yaris 2018 is coming in the United States in summer months at the MSRP of $16,520.

Design

This has to be the biggest change done to the new Yaris. The front fascia is new with heavy influences from the new Prius. For starters, Toyota deleted the upper grille and replaced it with a smooth surface that carries the badge. The headlights have the same shape as before but this time around the interior inserts are all new which do give it a meaner look. The lower grille is just as large as before boasting the same honeycomb mesh. However, the fog lamps are now surrounded by new inserts, and it received a new set of vertical DRLs that make it seem slightly wider than it really is. In the back, there is a new roof spoiler as well as a new set of tail lights. The taillights are now extended to the sides, and thus give the car a wider look. The bumper also received a couple of fake intakes which gives it a sportier feel. The wheels aren’t larger, but they do come with new rims which complete the look of the car.

The interior design of the 2018 Toyota Yaris is identical to its predecessor. There are some differences though. For starters, the previous SE-specific instrument cluster with three individual gauges is now available as standard across the range. On top of that, the base version gets a larger 6.1-inch infotainment screen while the top end SE model gets a larger 7.0-inch unit. These use Toyota’s new Entune audio system which is far better than the one before it. All cars come with MP3 playback, six speakers, two inputs for mobile phones as well as Bluetooth and Siri Eyes Free.

Under the Hood

The 2018 Toyota Yaris carried over the same 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine which is good for 106 horsepower and 103 lb-ft of torque. This drives the front wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox on the base “L” model only. All the others, including the sporty “SE,” get a four-speed automatic which is by far one of the worst gearboxes still in production. This is slow and unresponsive, and it makes the drive very dull. Toyota did showcase a high-performance Yaris with a 207 horsepower engine. Even though this is just a concept at this point, the engine might eventually find its way into the US model. If this will happen then, the Yaris will finally have what it takes to become a leader in its class. We also hope for a new lower-displacement turbocharged engine, possibly Toyota’s 1.2-liter turbo four, which could offer more power and better fuel efficiency than the current 1.5-liter unit.
