The all new Titan has been released around a year ago and it is a rather interesting truck. Instead of going for an already proven format, Nissan decided to release a larger than the half-a-ton truck but smaller than the usual three-quarter ton truck. The Titan xD can pull between 12,000 and 13,500 pounds depending on its engine and it is also quite a bit heavier than the competition. Due to its size, many people suggested that Nissan would release a smaller version of the truck with the 2018 Nissan Titan. So far this has not been confirmed but it would make a lot of sense considering the size of the current model.
2018 Nissan Titan Price and Release date
So far not much else has been said about this future model but it seems it might be slotted right between the Titan xD and the Frontier. The price would also have to be between them so we expect a starting point of roughly $28,000 which is the middle-ground between the two. Unfortunately, as we said above, these are just rumors at this point. The release date is also unknown but considering their previous release schedule, we should see a version of it in the autumn of 2017. The xD currently weighs over 8,500 pounds which do come with a few benefits. However, this also puts it in the line of fire of the F-250 and other heavier trucks on the market. The new smaller Titan would likely weigh quite a bit less than that.
Design and Size
However, it is unlikely for it to be released with a full aluminum body like the F-150 for example. Instead, the 2018 Nissan Titan should employ regular high strength steel with some aluminum body parts. On top of that, it seems that with this generation, a Warrior model might be released. This has been previewed by the Titan Warrior concept truck. However, it would not make much sense on the xD. Instead, the smaller Titan, equipped with the large engine and a lower weight could be a really great off-road truck, similar to what the Raptor used to be.
2018 Nissan Titan Interior
There is still no word on the actual design here but it seems that the new Titan could use the same design scheme found on the larger truck. On top of that, its cabin might be just as big as that of the Titan xD. This choice has been made by Ford quite recently in order to reduce their development costs and it actually worked.
Engine and Transmission
Like the current xD, the upcoming 2018 Nissan Titan is expected to make use of a combination of petrol and diesel engines. However, it should be available with smaller engines as well intended for light duty work. So far Nissan doesn’t really have any suitable engines for this type of application but it is worth mentioning that they have Infiniti which did release an entirely new engine quite recently. Their 3 liters twin-turbocharged V6 would be the perfect match for a truck.
This rather small displacement engine offers plenty of torque at low RPM and it would offer a good fuel economy as well. Currently, the engine is available in two different outputs ranging from 300 to 400 horsepower. This would be more than enough to allow the future Titan to compete with the likes of F-150 and the Silverado. Like the larger xD, the smaller truck should make use of a seven-speed automatic gearbox which would send the power either to the rear or all four wheels. Rumors suggest that the truck would be able to tow around just as much as its competitors at 9,000 pounds which are more than enough for its class.
