2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe Price and Review

The 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe has just been released and it is as impressive as most rumors said it is going to be. For starters, the new model is considerably larger than before. It is more than 4 inches wider, more than one inch taller, 3 inches wider and it has a more than 4 inches longer wheelbase. Despite being so large, the drag coefficient increased by a small amount so it still is one of the most aerodynamic cars on the market.

Also, the car is not only larger but it is also using their newest platform. This is a huge step-up from the older model which used the same chassis as the C-Class. This means that the new E-Class Coupe is more luxurious, more powerful and also much better looking. All of these upgrades should allow the car to become the leader of its class with ease.

The MRA platform is a rear wheel drive architecture which mostly uses aluminum in its construction. Mercedes also adds composites in certain areas, so the result is considerably stiffer than before. The car is also lighter despite being quite a bit larger which should aid with both performance and fuel efficiency. Despite being less aerodynamic, most sources reported that the new E-Class Coupe is considerably quieter than the one before it. Unfortunately, so far Mercedes hasn’t released the official pricing scheme for the car. Despite that, it is safe to assume it will be around $3,000 to $5,000 more than the equivalent sedan. This has been the norm for years now, and we don’t see it change anytime soon.

Exterior

The car is as good as Mercedes said it is going to be. The first model was showcased back at the end of 2016 and the production 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe didn’t change a bit from that car. Unlike the older generation, this time around it shares the same design for the front end with the E-Class sedan. The car features no B-pillars so when the windows are down it really allows a lot of light to enter the cabin. This type of design is also reminiscent of the earlier E-Class Coupe models. The rear has been styled to better fit Mercedes’ coupe theme. This means that it takes cues from both the C-Class coupe and the AMG GT.

Inside the Cabin

There is no question about the fact the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe looks and feels much better than before. For starters, the interior is mostly identical to that of the sedan, the exception being the seats and the smaller back seats due to it being a coupe. The car is available with the two large 12-inch screens, plenty of great materials such as real wood, aluminum or leather. Also, Mercedes is offering as standard better seats than on the sedan. These are electrically adjustable, and they should allow the driver and the passenger to find the perfect position with ease.

Under the Hood

So far it seems that the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe is going to launch with the E400 and with the E43. Both of these models will feature a 3 liter twin-turbocharged V6 gas engine. The E400 is going to provide 329 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque which are all going to be routed to the rear wheels via a nine-speed automatic. Mercedes said that this particular version would hit 60 MPH in just 5.2 seconds which is considerably better than the older generation. The E43 is going to make little over 350 horsepower, and it should shave the acceleration time even more. In Europe, we are bound to see a 2-liter turbo four on the E300 as well as at least a couple of diesel engines.

 The upcoming top of the range AMG E63 model is going to ditch the V8. Even though Mercedes hasn’t confirmed what engine it is going to receive, it is quite clear that AMG is no longer focusing on their older V8 engine. Instead, they started developing one of Mercedes’ new 3 liters in-line six gas engines. This is likely going to feature one or two regular turbochargers and an electrically boosted supercharger. The result should be a 3-liter engine with north of 450 horsepower. This will eventually find its way into most AMG-powered cars.
