We got the chance to see the Ciel for the first time in the movie The Island (2005), starring Ewan MacGregor and Scarlet Johansson. However, the movie Ciel significantly differs than the original vehicle released six years after the movie. The four-door convertible shares lots of features with the Cadillac Elmiraj, a new concept introduced in 2013. These two concepts are quite similar, except the Elmiraj is a coupe. Now are eyes are on the 2017 Cadillac Ciel which is supposed to arrive in the near future. Although, the exact date is unknown there are already a bunch of speculations on the Web.
2017 Cadillac Ciel Price and Release date
The 2017 Cadillac Ciel may seem flawless with all mentioned characteristics, and it really is if we neglect the price. If you are on a tight budget stop reading now. With the price of around $100,000, it goes through the roof. The 2017 model will cost more than its main rivals, but it is worth every penny. It is possible new 2017 Cadillac Ciel will be presented at the next Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, but we’re waiting for the official confirmation.
However, it is safe to assume that a concept will be released by the end of 2017 while a production version could hit the market after 2020.
The full-size luxury car is named after the French word for ‘sky.’ It is by far one of the most luxurious convertibles ever produced. It is elegant, muscular and not too aggressive with an enormously long wheelbase. Believe or not it has a hybrid engine under the hood and it should be based on the modular Alpha platform. Some of the main competitors in this field are Lexus LC and Mercedes SL and it will be interesting to see what will be the reaction of the market once the new Ciel is launched.

The original model had a 3.6-liter direct injection six-cylinder combined with a hybrid system based on the lithium-ion technology. The combination can deliver stunning 425 horsepower. Allegedly, the 2017 Cadillac Ciel will have two engines in the lineup. According to one source, the base engine should get a twin-turbocharged six-cylinder which should deliver around 400 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. The base model should also have both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive mode. Please do not take this to the bank and have in mind these are just speculations and rough numbers.
On the other hand, there is supposed to be new twin-turbocharged eight-cylinder with the unknown output. However, some people talk about 500 hp and even more. Contrary to the base model, it will only have a rear-wheel drive. In our opinion, both of these engines will be combined with the lithium-ion battery, as well as the original model. At this moment we cannot talk about fuel economy since there is not enough information. We’re waiting for Cadillac to either confirm or deny these allegations and then we’ll have a clearer picture of the new Ciel.
The four-seat convertible is one of the most luxurious vehicles debuted in the last five years. It features a large grille and huge wheelbase. A Cadillac badge is placed on the hexagonal grille, and two air intakes are placed at the bottom of every side of the front fascia. Headlights are a state-of-the-art, and there are no similar headlights in the whole car world. We believe the 2017 Cadillac Ciel won’t differ much from the original model in terms of design. However, is it possible to come with a soft top as opposed to the hard top the original model had? This means there is going to be more space in the trunk.
