2018 Dodge Challenger Introduction – Challenger was originally presented in 1958 and was named Dodge Silver Challenger. The first-generation pony car was based on the Chrysler E-Platform, and it shares lots of components with Baracuda. Since the introduction of the first generation, production was discontinued several times.
The latest generation was launched eight years ago, and this is the third one. The third generation is based on Chrysler LC platform and comes in several different trim levels and few limited-production variants. 2018 Dodge Challenger is the upcoming member of this family and there already some details and speculations about it.
2018 Dodge Challenger Review
Competence in this field is tough since Mustang and Camaro are high-flyers and it appears that Challenger is few steps behind. It is really difficult to keep the pace with them, and Chrysler had to change something. 2018 model is coming with lots of modifications and updates. At this moment it is hard to enlist all possible changes, and we will try to predict some of them. Lighter chassis is expected. In order to improve fuel economy, they had to reduce the weight of the car, and this is the biggest change of the 2018 model. This weight reduction leads us to believe that new model will be faster than the current one.
Under the Hood
At this point, it is not certain what units will be under the hood of the 2018 Dodge Challenger. However, there are some speculations, and one thing is sure. There are going to be several optional units. Challenger always comes in few different trims which have different engines. It is most likely that the base model will be equipped with 2.0-liter inline-4. This unit should be a substitute for a 3.6-liter six-cylinder, and it comes with an output 272 hp.
The second choice might be a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged six-cylinder. This engine is slightly powerful than the base unit and delivers between 320 and 400 hp, and 400 pound-feet of torque. The strongest engine comes with SRT trim. This is the top trim (and thus the most expensive one), but its engine still cannot compete with that one used under the hood of the Mustang. With an output of 500 hp and 500 pound-feet of torque is lacking behind Mustang’s engine for 160 hp. Don’t get me wrong, these powertrains are great, but they are not the best in the class. Nevertheless, the upcoming Challenger has a lot to offer, and you will surely like its design.
Interior and Exterior
2018 Dodge Challenger looks sportier than before. It has dual exhaust system at the back and headlights were redesigned. They will have a more aggressive look and will be equipped with LED technology. Body chassis is going to use more carbon and aluminum materials which significantly contribute to weight reduction. Also, air intakes are going to be improved to enhance engine cooling. With refreshed design, this 2-door sedan should be more competent on the market.
Interior is usually kept of record for a long time. However, it is quite easy to make predictions of the interior. The new infotainment system is expected along with an elegant dashboard. All standard features are there: USP port, satellite radio, Bluetooth connection and audio integration. It appears that new model will be slightly smaller in size. Nonetheless, passengers should have enough space at the front as well as at the back. Seats are going to be wrapped in leather along with a steering wheel. Perhaps it’s smaller, but it’s still quite comfortable.
2018 Dodge Challenger Price and Release Date
Although Chrysler is still secretive about the arrival date and price it is not difficult to assume these two. Price range is always wide, and 2018 Dodge Challenger should cost between $33,000 and $63,000 (SRT trim) while it is going to be launched in the second half of 2017.
