Jul 11, 2017 / The Ram 1500 is one of the best-selling cars in the United States and the third best selling truck on the North American Market. Even though the current model is starting to get old at this point, it still sells better than ever. In order to keep their customers happy though, an update is going to be released with the upcoming 2018 RAM 1500 ( possibly 2019 MY ). So far the company has been quiet about this new model. Even so, test mules of the truck have been seen numerous times. The latest was seen a few weeks ago, and it was wearing rather light camouflage.
What Will Change?
The biggest change that will happen to the new RAM is going to be the truck’s platform. This is going to use a new high strength steel ladder frame chassis on which a mostly steel body will be installed. This time around it looks like they may also use aluminum in some areas in order to reduce the weight. We can expect aluminum doors, roof, and hood to keep the weight and overall durability of the truck at its best. On top of that, it looks like RAM will finally make a move from 5 to 6 lugs. This likely suggests larger payloads and possibly heavier duty suspension components. Also, it seems that most engines will be carried over from its predecessor with a possible new addition.
The Camouflaged Test Mule – Anything New?
Even though the truck spied a while ago was still wearing quite a bit of camouflage, we were able to see some really interesting details about it. For starters, it looks like in the front the new 2018 RAM 1500 (2019 MY)is going to use a similar design to the previously leaked prototype. Here it looks like it will boast a hexagonal grille, C-shaped LED headlights while maintaining the cross-hair grille the RAM is known for. The bumper also seems to boast a more aerodynamic profile while the fenders seem to be considerably wider than the body. The back sports a twin-exhaust which interestingly enough is integrated into the bumper.
The interior: Luckily we were able to take a quick peek inside the cabin of the future 1500, and things look promising. For starters, the test mule had the same steering wheel as the Pacifica. This could suggest the two are going to share the same infotainment system and a similar setup for the adaptive cruise control system. On top of that, a new rotary gear selector seems to be in use on the truck while the design looks to be slightly more modern than before.
2018 Ram 1500 UPDATE /APR 12,2017/ Many vehicles are coming out of FCA’s factories. SUVs, crossovers, cars, and trucks. You name it they make it. Many will come in the near future, and FCA is rapidly working on them. Generally, when automakers plan to bring new, redesigned or only updated model on the market they keep it a secret until they have something substantial to show. Or, up to the moment when some photographer catches test mule with its camera.
There are many things that people from FCA are good at but keeping new models a secret is not one of them. We recently had leaked photos of 2018 Jeep Wrangler handed to us together with 2019 Jeep Grand Wagoneer, and now we have first leaked pictures of 2018 Ram 1500. The renderings that we now have on our hands, and which were leaked from dealership meeting, depict front and rear fascia of what is to be the next generation of 1500 Ram pickup.
Looking at the front end of the truck, we can see new, more modern, better styled and revised grille. 2019 1500 which now goes under the code name DT also has an extensive vertical bar and a little slimmer horizontal slot. It seems that they will follow fashion that suggests that slimmer is prettier because the headlights will also be thinner and they will also lose some of its square shape. No need to mention that front lights will most likely feature high-end LED tech. Moving onto the lower end of the front fascia, we see empty spaces probably reserved for a new set of fog lights, while the skid place is now off-colored and leaves space for work in progress which 2018 Ram 1500 certainly is. As far as the hood goes, it will continue to be a bit bulky just as the RAM fans love it. Just, this time around it will feature more pyramidal shape instead of an old rectangular.
On the rest of the photos, that show rear end of this truck, we can see that RAM is going to borrow few ideas from its competitors. Most notably from the ongoing Ford F-150. The taillights that from the first look won’t be revised all that much will now have a separate section within them. This part of the rear lights will serve for reverse lights and turn signals. Same as up front at the rear LED lamps will be present probably now as a part of standard equipment.
2018 Ram 1500 Release Date
With all of these leaked and spy photos, we can clearly tell that work on 2018 Ram 1500 is well and truly underway. This prompts the question when it will be released? Most likely, RAM will introduce its new pickup at 2018 Detroit Auto Show or in any other case it will be in early 2018. In correspondence with this, there is a grave possibility that new 1500 is going to come to us as 2019 MY, but this remains to be seen.
Review Aug 18, 2016 / Ram has some big plans. Huge ones! With the next generation of the RAM 1500, they are planning to sell more than 500,000 units. You may think they are crazy, but they are not far from reaching this figure. Of course, you must take competent cars into consideration. Competence is quite tough in this field, but with the 2018 Ram 1500, they are planning to become a high-flyer. With 2018 model Ram is hoping to set new standards in the pickup truck category and they are on a good way to achieve this goal. Even though many details are still being kept of record we managed to find out certain info about new 1500.
Modifications
So what is going to be changed? That is probably the question you have been asking yourself since you started reading this article. We are happy to tell you there are going to be plenty of modifications. Allegedly 2018 Ram 1500 is coming with an improved powertrain and that is supposed to be the biggest refreshment.
In addition, designers decided to add new features, thus new 1500 looks more modern than the previous one. The last but not least, engineers will reduce the weight of the truck which will contribute to the overall performance.
Engine and Fuel Economy
2018 is still far and thus we can find many different opinions about this model. There are few sources that our different opinions and estimations, but almost all of them agree that 2018 Ram 1500 –liter will be powered by 3.6-liter Pentastar six-cylinder. Actually, an improved version of this unit will be placed under the hood of new 1500. It is still unknown how strong this engine is going to be. However, some predictions tell us it will be able to generate at least 300 hp.
Fuel economy is always important to factor despite fuel prices are at their minimum. Fuel consumption is actually more important in Europe than in the US, but it is always a relevant factor and shows company’s aims and aspirations.
With the improved 3.6-liter, 2018 model should use less fuel than before. It is impossible to make any estimation about EPA rating, but we have high hopes Ram will release this info in the following months. Apart from the 3.6l, there might be one more engine option. However, we are uncertain at this point what unit could that be.
Design Speculations
The most important thing regarding the design of the 2018 Ram 1500 is that it should have less weight than its predecessor. This leads us to believe Ram is going to a different material for the chassis. Perhaps they are going to add more aluminum and use less steel.
This is one of the main reasons why fuel consumption is going to be decreased. Apart from that, we can tell much regarding exterior. It is believed that front part won’t face a huge overhaul. It will still have that familiar grille with Ram logo in the center.
The cabin should not look any different than it is now. New 1500 will probably get some updates and refreshments on the inside. However, these modifications should be subtle and we don’t expect anything huge. There is going to be plenty of space for both people and cargo. To tell you the truth, cargo space is usually not an issue when it comes to pickup trucks. Generally, the cabin will keep the current look, but stay tuned with us in order to find out possible refreshments.
2018 Ram 1500 Price
Reportedly, 2018 Ram 1500 should hit the market sometime next year. It is likely to release will happen in the last quarter of 2017. Since there are some modifications it is expected that the price will be slightly higher than before. However, this increase shouldn’t be significant and new Ram 1500 won’t cost much more than the current version.

I hope they modify the Hemi into a direct injection engine increasing the horsepower and fuel economy.
any information about the advanced Safety Package? Dodge is way behind the other PU Manufacturers in this regard
No, at the moment there isn’t any information about safety packages. The Dodge and Ram trucks will definitely address this issue with upcoming 1500 model.
You say the new 3.6 “will be able to generate at least 300 hp.” It already produces 305 with the throttle body injection. Direct injection would be a real plus, and should produce even more than 305 hp depending upon how it breathes (a turbo would be AWESOME!!). Fuel economy on my 2014 3.6 averages 21 mpg in town and about 25 on the highway after just over 36000 miles. One thing I hope they do is get rid of the Goodyear tires, which are AWFUL. The original tires lasted just 30000 miles and made the handling sloppy. I put a set of my favorites (Michelin Defender) on it and it now handles WORLDS better and the fuel economy has improved (not to mention the tires have an 80000 mile warranty). Hope FCA is listening to this . . .
