2019 Chevrolet Silverado Diesel- Mitigating its posture: Diesel is a controversial word in the United States. Mostly thanks to VW and its rather immature move, diesel image has been tarnished in such a strong way, that many are occupied by the predictions of diesel’s future date of demise. Even without infamous Dieselgate, fuel capable of spontaneous combustion was always living on margins of American automotive world. Still, nobody can deny certain virtuous that it carries with itself and even on the left side of North Atlantic it became an inevitable part of Heavy Duty truck world. Tremendous torque and fuel sipping haven’t been drawing into the “smelly” game light trucks till recently, but times are definitely changing.

Change Of Course…

Torque is what you need to haul plenty of stuff around and to drag hefty things behind you. Ram was first to implement the recipe in “1500” truck world and its turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 diesel produce bigger torque figures than almost double sized petrol V8. GM was first to offer a diesel in the mid-size truck segment with Colorado and Canyon and knowing the fact that everything above half-tone classification heavily leans on it, might leave us wondering why not here also? It does not matter of why anymore, since ancient and fiercest rival or Ford’s F-150 is destined to arrive with it very soon.

Closing The Gap…

F-Series and Silverado rivalry often get so tough that brands forget about gentleman’s code in advertising and ordinary people in bars forget common sense and end up in blood and tears. Despite Chevy choose to question opponent’s characteristics rather than promote its values in advertising approach, sales figures are relentless and a gap of well over 200k units sold last year between them is just vast. Overtopping everlasting king of sales is obviously “mission impossible,” but closing the gap could be viable.

If You Can’t Beat Them, Join Them…

It is an old saying, and it is all that is left for “bow tie” to do. After heavily criticizing Ford’s use of aluminum, GM is about to shut itself up as 2019 Chevrolet Silverado Diesel is about to use some. To preserve part of its dignity lightweight metal will supposedly decorate hood and fenders but not the bed. Interestingly, despite current refusal to use aluminum Silverado is light by truck standards and even lighter than Ford’s offer heavily exploiting it. Still, with it, respectable weight figures can only go remarkable.

Back To The Diesel…

The final touch in keeping the pace with leader would be the introduction of diesel offered in the similar time of his action. Spy photographers caught masked 2019 Chevrolet Silverado Diesel at the gas station during fill up, relinquishing all doubts about its arrival. Still, no data about is available, and Colorado’s 2.8-liter L4 turbo diesel might seem inefficient, while HD’s turbocharged 6.6-liter V8 could appear exaggerated. Near future will probably gift more hints about it.

A Bit Too Soon…

You might as well thought that since current Silverado is on the market just four years. Still, it does use older architecture, so GM doesn’t have nerves to wait for a pass of usual life span and brand new generation, in question here, is about to hit the streets during next year. It probably won’t top the Ford in sales charts, but the gap might become thin enough to inhale at least dash of uncertainty into “blue oval” minds.

UPDATE

May 31, 2017: The new Silverado has been spied testing quite a few times now and so far it seems the changes are more than just cosmetic. In fact, this update is actually going to bring on the market an entirely new model together with a brand new interior.

Even though so far GM didn’t release much about the future truck, it was actually spied testing on the open roads and on top of that, its interior has already been seen wearing no camouflage at all. It seems the 2019 Chevy Silverado interior update will bring quite a few upgrades over its predecessor.

Dashboard: For starters, the design of the entire dashboard will change so the truck’s older vertical design will be gone. Instead, the new model will get a much more refined look which will not only look better but it will give the driver easier access to most of the truck’s functions. It seems the entire center stack has been redesigned on this new model. This time around the center stack seems to be narrower and the buttons seem to have an airier layout. On top of the center stack, there is GM’s new MyLink infotainment system. Just under it, Chevrolet decided to install physical shortcut buttons which will allow the driver to use the system without having to look in the system’s menu. Lower on the stack GM added a set of USB ports, likely only usable for charging, an 110V AC power outlet as well as a regular 12V outlet. All of these should allow the Silverado to offer an increased amount of usability over its successor.

A larger cabin? The 2019 Chevy Silverado interior update was also rumored to offer a considerably better cabin. While not much larger on the outside, the truck would be able to offer more room to those inside thanks to a less intrusive chassis. If this is the case then the Silverado might have what it takes to become one of the most comfortable trucks in its class which is not exactly an easy feat to achieve. On top of the extra space, the materials all around the cabin will improve by a good margin. This became clear a while ago when the first spy shots were taken. These revealed considerably better cloth seats as well as a much nicer leather wrapped steering wheel on what seemed to be a base truck. If this will be carried over to the production model, the new Silverado shouldn’t really have a problem with becoming the best value for money model in its class.

Review: The Silverado is the second-best-selling truck in the US. However, due to the fact some of its rivals received major revisions, the sales started declining in comparison with the previous years. In order to get back on track, a new version is going to be released with the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado. GM didn’t say anything about this upcoming model though which could mean they are trying to surprise us. However, the truck has been seen testing in numerous occasions, and so far it seems quite impressive. For starters, the new model is going to be based on an entirely new platform. It will still be a body on frame truck. However, its chassis is going to be made mostly out of high strength steel, so it should boast increased rigidity and reduced weight.

2019 Chevrolet Silverado Details – the Running Gear

The truck’s suspension setup will remain similar to the one before it. This was confirmed a while ago. In the back, it will continue to use a live axle with leaf springs while in the front it will feature an independent setup. This basically combines the benefits of both types of suspension. However, it also means it will likely handle worse on the road than some of its rivals. This problem could be alleviated though thanks to its considerably stiffer chassis. Its brakes are also likely going to be beefed up. These upgrades alone should be more than enough to increase its payload and also towing capacity. The price is likely not going to change all that much, at least for the base models.

Design

The camouflaged prototype of the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado is quite impressive. The truck has been seen a short while ago, and the changes seem to be substantial over the ongoing model. In the front, the DRLs moved to the bottom of the headlights. It also seems to boast a considerably larger grille than before. Most of the cabin is unfortunately hidden, but it seems to be at least similar to the smaller Colorado. The bed is all new, though. Even though it is camouflaged, we can see wide wheel arches and an entirely new bed design. The latter will also feature one of GM’s newest innovations. The tailgate will be modular, and it will open up forming a closed step. This would be a major improvement over their main rival’s offering, and it should set it apart from the competition.

Interior

The cabin is still well under wraps, but this is likely going to borrow design elements from the Suburban as well as the current truck. We do expect some upgrades to the materials inside, and it should also offer more features than before. Things such as an automatic trailer steering system or even a 360-degree camera are likely going to be available on most models.

The Ruggedness – Is It Gone?

Even though GM is well known for criticizing aluminum, it seems things will change with the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado. The truck’s cab and most of its front end are more than likely going to be made out of this lightweight metal. This will not only safe weight, but it will make it rust-resistant. Its bed, on the other hand, is expected to be made out of steel. This will keep its usability unchanged, and it will likely become a major selling point for the new Silverado.

Engine

So far it seems that both the 4.3 liter V6 and the larger 5.3 liter V8 might be carried over to the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado. Like with most other redesigns, though, the Silverado is expected to receive a bump in power and fuel efficiency. Both engines are expected to receive a revised fuel delivery system, likely a better engine management software as well as a better exhaust. The 6.2 liter naturally aspirated V8 with its 420 horsepower is also going to be seen again. This time around it is expected to make closer to 450 horsepower and over 460 lb-ft of torque. All engines will feature a standard ten-speed automatic gearbox and a choice of either rear or four-wheel drive. Some rumors also suggested the truck receiving a new DOHC V8. Unfortunately, this is highly unlikely because this type of engine is known to make most of the torque at high RPM. However, it may receive an additional engine, likely a diesel but so far not much information has been made available for it.

According to Autospix.com, there will be a new Silverado for the 2024 model year. Also, the new 2024 Chevy Silverado will be equipped with two engines, All-new 6.6L V8 Gasoline Engine and Duramax 6.6L V8 Turbo-Diesel Engine. A 6.6L V8 will delivers 401-hp and 464 lb-ft of torque along with 6-speed automatic transmission and then the 6.6L Duramax diesel engine will deliver 445-hp and 910 lb-ft of torque with new Allison’s 10-speed automatic transmission.
