Ford Ranger is a compact pickup truck that is sold worldwide, except in the North America. It was America’s favorite pickup at the end of the 20th century with sales close to 350,000 units a year solely in the US. However, the sales had been dropping year after year and in 2011 Ford finally decided to discontinue manufacturing this model. It was a smart move since now there are many nostalgic customers who can’t wait to see this pickup on the American roads. Well, there is good news for all of you who are dreaming of seeing new Ranger. Apparently, Ford is going to release the 2018 Ford Ranger in the US and Canada once again. Although this is not official, let’s see what the new model will look like.
2018 Ford Ranger Price and Release date
2018 is seen as a year when the Ford Ranger 2018 may hit the US market. We’re still waiting for the official confirmation, so don’t take this to the bank. According to several different sources price of the regular cab will be around $21,000 while the other two cabs will cost a few thousand dollars more.
Ford Ranger Review
The American automaker redesigned the pickup several years ago and since then the interest in this truck has been increasing. It seems that the Americans would like to see it again on their streets and the 2018 model will be the first one to hit the roads.
The pickup will be probably assembled at Ford’s Michigan Assembly Plant. Ford has recently announced it was planning to move the production of C-Max and Focus in Mexico thus there is space for other models to be produced in Michigan. The best candidates are Ranger and Bronco which should be released in a year or two. Currently, there are no reliable details about the new Ranger, but certain speculations can be found.
The pickup will come in three different configurations: regular cab, extended cab and crew cab. Currently, not a single car manufacturer offers a regular cab in North America thus this is a great opportunity for Ford. There is no reason why the American version of the 2018 Ford Ranger will be different than the international. Therefore we believe the 2018 model will be quite similar to the current international variant. Only subtle refreshments and modifications are expected.
Interior design will depend on the trim level. Higher trims are getting the updated version of SYNC. It will be equipped with a Bluetooth connection, a navigation system, satellite and HD radio and perhaps even with the same 360-degree camera that F-150 uses. Higher trims are getting leather-lined seats while the lower ones will probably have cloth-wrapped seats. In general, the interior will resemble the current international model and there will be no surprises here.

The international variant comes with four different powertrains, but it is most likely the American version of the 2018 Ford Ranger will be powered by a completely different lineup. Speculations tell us one of the engines will be taken from the Transit vans. A 3.2-liter inline-5 turbodiesel with an output of 185 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque is a good choice for the new pickup. However, there should be at least two more options.
The next in line delivers far more power than the 3.2-liter. A 2.7-liter EcoBoost six-cylinder comes with an output of 325 hp and 375 lb-ft of torque. Thanks to this engine Ranger will be more powerful than the current model of Tacoma. A gasoline engine is expected to complete the lineup. For instance, Ford may choose Explorer’s 2.3-liter EcoBoost inline-4. The 2.3-liter delivers less power than the previous unit, but it is still quite powerful (280 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque).
There will be no surprises in terms of the transmission system. Both six-speed manual and automatic will be available for all powertrains except the base engine. The 3.2-liter will be mated only to an automatic gearbox. Drive mode is also optional: a buyer can choose between all-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive.
2018 Ford Ranger Competition
Two main rivals of the 2018 Ford Ranger on the American soil are Chevrolet Colorado and Toyota Tacoma. All three of them are similar in size and shape, and the prices are almost identical. The main difference among these three will be under the hood. Colorado and Tacoma have decent engines, but the top unit of the new Ranger will be over these two.
