UPDATE APR 11, 2017. By today’s standards, current-gen Silverado can’t be considered old thanks to the fact that it was introduced not so long ago in 2014. The only thing that this truck is lacking is the touch of the modern age. The architecture on which is built is quite old, and it needs some improvements. This is about to happen with 2018 Chevrolet Silverado, view this. According to some sources, it could come early in 2018 as 2019 MY, but this was not officially confirmed.
The new model could benefit from latest technology available to Chevy and from light weight materials used for the build of the chassis. The primary focus could be switched from steel to aluminum.
Silverado’s chief rival Ford F-150 is the best-selling truck in the US market, but this doesn’t mean that Chevy’s truck isn’t selling well. Together with its more expensive sibling, GMC Sierra, it brings a lot of money to the Detroit-based company. But the fact that the vehicle started to show signs of old age in terms of technology and overall feel that this pickup gives has lowered their sales while at the same time Ford’s workhorse took a bigger share of the market.
This is another reason why they felt that the time is right to modernize Silverado truck. The update on 2018 Chevrolet Silverado (2019 MY) will be a thorough one and will most of all be based on shedding the weight of the truck. Current gen Silverado is already on of the lightest vehicles in its class, but it is built entirely out of steel.
The new model will use more aluminum parts in order to lose some more weight and at the same time improves its efficiency. The efficiency is important, but there is one thing that Chevy holds close to its heart. We are of course talking about their full steel bed. This part of the pickup won’t be altered because of its use, not only for work but in their marketing war against Ford.
As far as the platform is concerned, it will have some modifications. The frame will be an all-new, but the standard separated body and frame will remain together with a live rear axle. Rear-wheel drive will come as standard while all-wheel and four-wheel drive are going to be optional.
When it comes to the powertrain, you will have two base options to choose from and one premium. First one is the unit which was already used on this truck, and that is 4.3-liter V-6. For 2018 Chevrolet Silverado this unit was recently updated. The second variant is turbocharged four-cylinder which has the duty to improve Silverado’s fuel efficiency.
Regardless of which unit you buy, you will have only one transmission option, and that is GM’s eight-speed automatic gearbox. For the Silverado 1500, you will have designated V8 small-block V-8 as you are used to. The transmission available with this one will be an either eight-speed or a ten-speed automatic. Later one is the latest product of Ford/GM cooperation.
2018 Chevrolet Silverado Release Date and Price
The reason why we mentioned that this model might come as 2019 MY is because there is a grave possibility that Chevrolet won’t be able to complete Silverado during this year. There is also an option that they won’t force truck’s introduction during this year. This prompt us to conclude that 2019 Chevrolet Silverado (cited as 2018 Silverado earlier in the article) will be presented at 2018 North American Auto Show in Detroit. This makes more sense if you know that Ford showed new F-150 this year at NAIAS.
The competition between these two is fierce, so the Michigan biggest city as the location of introduction of Chevy’s workhorse seems like a reasonable option. As far as the price goes, it will vary from $28,800 for an entry model and all up to $60,000 for a fully packed High Country trim. If you believe it.
Main competitors for this model in a very hostile truck segment are already mentioned Ford F-150, GMC Sierra 1500, Nissan Titan, RAM 1500, and Toyota Tundra.

UPDATE MAY 17, 2017 / The current Silverado has been released back in 2012. Since then it didn’t change all that much. While it remains one of the better selling trucks in the US, GM is going to release a new version soon enough. In fact, the all new 2019 MY version has already been spied wearing heavy camouflage, and it looks to be pretty much ready for production.
Not that long ago the truck has been spied once again but this time around a lot more details have been revealed mostly with the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado interior update. This shows us most of the dashboard that will be fitted to the production model, and it gives us a good idea of what we can expect from the higher end versions.
2018 Chevrolet Silverado Interior Design
Even though this is an all new model, it is quite clear GM is trying their best to offer an evolutionary path for the truck’s cabin. The interior is quite clearly that of a GM product, but even so, it still has its unique quirks. The center stack boasts a cleaner design than its predecessor but it features a more upright design which wasn’t expected. At the top of the center stack, there is GM’s great infotainment system which seems to rock a larger than 8-inch screen.
On the either side of it, there are the center HVAC vents. Right under the screen, there is a set of buttons to provide shortcuts for the infotainment unit as well as for the climate control, both of which can be accessed via the interface.
Under these buttons there are a set of USB plugs, likely meant as charging ports, a 110V outlet as well as the usual 12V DC plug. The materials seem better than before with most of the center stack being covered by a softer material. The steering wheel is roughly the same as in GM’s current crossovers which likely features the buttons for the cruise control as well as shortcuts for the infotainment unit. Unfortunately, the rest of the cabin was mostly covered, but it seems the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado (2019 MY) interior update is substantial.
All New Design, Not Just Inside
It seems this new generation of the Silverado boasts a new high strength steel chassis. While not official, some suggest this is less intrusive than the one before it which could free up some interior space. This wasn’t clear from the spy shots, but the truck would certainly do great with extra legroom and headroom for the rear seats.
REVIEW Jan 31, 2017. / Have you ever had a feeling that GMC Sierra looks incredibly like Chevrolet Silverado? That’s because these two are identical. Every single detail is the same and these are not the only names it has. It is also known as VIA VITRUX, VTA SolTRUX and Chevrolet C/K in East Asia.
Name Silverado was taken from the trim of the Chevrolet C/K that was being produced until 1998. The first generation was released in 1998 as a classic light-duty truck. The upcoming 2018 Chevrolet Silverado will be a member of the third generation which was launched three years ago. The last generation came with lots of innovative features making Silverado one of the best pickups on the American soil.
Market Review
There are many debates on the Web whether the pickup truck market is saturated or not. There are several significant manufacturers which have positioned themselves on the world market. Most of them are coming from the US, but Toyota also has a huge market share. European automakers are still far behind them. However, they are slowly entering the market. BMW should release a pickup in the following two or three years.
Some rumors appeared that Tesla is designing an all-electric pickup. These speculations have not been confirmed yet but the market is definitely ready for a zero-emission free pickup. This should be a goal for all car manufacturers – to develop a green pickup truck. Not only they will help to save the planet but their share of the market will surely be increased.
Drivetrain
Currently, 2018 Chevy Silverado hasn’t announced any information related to the powertrain. However, there are some speculations on the Web and we took few into consideration. Some experts mention a 5.3-liter as the most probable option. This unit was used under the hood of several Ram and Ford pickups. It comes with an output of 355 hp and 383 pound-feet of torque and it seems as the perfect engine for new Silverado. This engine should be mated to six-speed automatic transmission and should have an all-wheel drive system.
The second option may be a twin-turbocharged 2.7l V6. It delivers 30 hp less than the first option but the 0-60 mph time should be the same – 6.5 seconds for both engines. Besides these two units, many speculate about three more different units. However, we will not take them into consideration since those rumors are not likely to be true. Chevy still needs to either confirm or deny these allegations and to release more info about the engines. We can’t guess the EPA rating but you shouldn’t expect anything surprising.
Design of Chevy Silverado 2018
Unfortunately, there is no reliable info about the interior and exterior. Chevrolet is still keeping these details off record and there are no indications when they will be released. Nevertheless, we can assume several things and hope they will come true. This should be the fourth member of the third generation thus we can expect some modifications.
Perhaps bonnet is going to be refreshed with some new lines. Also, new lines are expected on both sides of the truck. Changes will be focused on the front part while the rear part of the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado should remain untouched.
Reportedly inner part of the truck should remain unchanged. As far as we are concerned it doesn’t need any modification. Seats are super comfortable and it uses top notch technology. The previous model got the best critics of the interior.
The 2018 Chevrolet Silverado will definitely cost more than its predecessor. Some estimations go up to $50,000 which is around average. However, this is still a huge sum of money thus we don’t expect that sales will soar. When it comes to releasing date there is no accurate information. Allegedly it should be released in the last quarter of 2017 but we’re waiting for the official announcement.
