Back in summer 2014, Elon Musk pledged he would create an all-electric vehicle that would be accessible to more people than other Tesla models. Tesla vehicles are outstanding. They have zero gas emission, exceptional characteristics, comfortable interior and much more. However, the biggest drawback of these cars is their price. The founder of SpaceX and PayPal has a tendency to manufacture electric cars and offer them at the average price but some models cost over $80,000. However, this is all about to change.
Model 3 Release Date
Tesla Model 3 finally hit the market at the end of July 2017 and is few steps closer to Musk’s final goal. Characteristics of this model are pretty much similar to Model X and Model S, but its price is significantly lower. Many doubted it would be released this year and it was expected that new Tesla model would make its debut in early 2018. Actually, in September 2015 it was announced that first photos should appear in March and new car should be revealed the end of 2017. Against all odds Musk successfully launched the Model 3 way earlier than expected. In the first seven days, more than 300,000 reservations were made which is three times more than sales of the Model S by the end of the last year.
Tesla Model 3 Specifications
When it comes to specifications the official site of Tesla doesn’t provide too much information thus we had to consult other sources as well. If you have an electric car then one of the most important things is mile range. Electric cars are still being neglected and there are no charging stations on every corner. Therefore it is very important to have a decent mile range. Almost all Tesla models come with a range over 200 miles (some of them can go up to 280 miles without any charging). Tesla Model 3 is estimated at 215 miles which are not the top but still good enough.
The new model can use supercharging network developed by Tesla. Musk promised these stations are going to use solar power, but only two of them are run by solar energy. These stations enable fast charging. The battery is fully charged in little more than 30 minutes. Cool thing is that you can monitor how fast it is charging on your smartphone. Company’s goal is not only to create green cars, but their tendency is to manufacture fast vehicles. With a 0-60 mph acceleration of nearly 6 seconds, Tesla Model 3 is among the fastest electric cars on the market.
Model S vs. Model 3
Franz von Holzhausen is the chief designer at Tesla Motors. He is also responsible for designing other cars, Model S, and Model X. For Tesla Model 3 he opted for a combination of Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Audi A4, and BMW 3-series. He took the best of these cars and implemented in his sketches. It takes technology after Model S but there are many distinctions between these two. First of all, both of them have unique designs and the new car is smaller for 20%.
While Model S comes with a front grille, Tesla Model 3 doesn’t have it. However, there is a possibility of adding one in future models, as it was stated by von Holzhausen. The front grille is not necessary in this case since combustion cars have a different cooling system than electric cars. Perhaps there’s no front grille, but there are plenty of optional features. The most interesting, in our opinion, is vegan-friendly interior. This means no natural leather will be used for seats. Apart from this, the new model has active air-suspension, autopilot convenience features, two hitches, etc.
Price
The biggest advantage of Tesla Model 3 over other electric cars and other vehicles manufactured by Tesla Motors is the price. With a price range starting at $35,000 it is definitely worth its price.
