Elon Musk keeps surprising us every year. The creator of SpaceX and PayPal also stands behind Tesla and a travel concept that is yet to be constructed – Hyperloop. Many were thinking that Tesla project is just too ambitious, and it would go bust in the first five years, but he proved everyone that they were wrong. This company manufactured some exceptional electric cars, and its next project is Tesla Pickup Truck.

There is not much reliable information about this truck and what its specifications are going to be, but we gathered details from several sources and compared them. None of this info you should take to the bank, but this is the all we have. No one has a clue when Tesla Pickup Truck is going be officially announced but then will update this article. Some details leaked from Tesla, and thus we decided to present this pickup truck.

 

Many people, and perhaps you are among them, are skeptical about this concept. They don’t believe it’s possible to power up such a heavy vehicle using an electric motor. Please have in mind that there were also skeptics at the beginning of Tesla, who didn’t believe such company could be sustainable. However, they first consider all aspects and crunch the numbers before releasing info about any concept.

Motor

All eyes are focused on the motor, but we must let you down and tell you that this it is still unknown what’s going to be under the hood of Tesla Pickup Truck. There are many rumors on the Web, but almost all of them seem to be untrue. Many of them tell us what kind of engine this truck is going to have but there is a huge mistake in this sentence. Electric cars don’t have engines but motors. Even though these two terms are sometimes used interchangeably, they are not the same.

Engines use diesel or gasoline while motors use electricity. For instance, Tesla Roadster runs thanks to an electric motor powered by a 375V battery. It delivers 185 kW or 250 horsepower which is way more than other electric cars (Toyota Prius V comes with 95 horsepower). One thing is sure, though – to keep running it needs a strong motor, stronger than unit used in Tesla roadster. There are estimations that it’ll need at least 400 horsepower, but this is only a rough estimation.

Design

According to unofficial information, Tesla Pickup Truck should resemble F-150. They might share the same platform, but Tesla will probably use lighter materials. It shouldn’t be much different than other pickups manufactured in the US in terms of the exterior.

Rectangular fog lights are expected along with LED headlights. It might have four doors and 18-inch wheelbase with wear-resistant tire system. There will probably be several special features including defrosters on the rear windows.

Seats are going to be placed in two rows, and it should accommodate five people with plenty of room for everyone. We’re not sure whether they are going to be wrapped in leather or cloth or any other material, but we are almost certain that this truck will have heated seats.

Top-notch technology isn’t a question here since Tesla applies high-tech devices and features in every vehicle. Some features that have become standard in a car industry and are expected in Tesla Pickup Truck are dual-zone climate control, satellite navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, air conditioning and much more.

Price and Release Date

Certain websites state that Tesla Pickup Truck is going to hit the market in 2017, but it takes more time than one year to develop this concept. Our best projection is five years from now, but we’ll all see if they surprise us. Price shouldn’t be discussed at this point, but Tesla aims to develop affordable vehicles so it might cost as any other regular pickup.
