Toyota Land Cruiser 2018 – In order to refresh their lineup, not that long ago Toyota released an update for the European version of the Land Cruiser. While not many people know, the European car is actually the same vehicle as the Prado, so it doesn’t really have that much in common with its larger sibling. Even so, it remains one of the most capable SUVs on the market and also one of the most comfortable.
The SUV is using the same chassis as the Hilux. However, this is a fully boxed in frame with a completely different suspension geometry. The latter allows the Land Cruiser to be just as good to drive on the road as it is capable off it.
What changed?
For starters, the manufacturer adjusted the price for the Toyota Land Cruiser 2018. This time around the car will cost noticeably less than before while also offering a few more features for the money. This will definitely allow Toyota to get a better share of the market for themselves. The only real drawback wee sees with the car has to remain its limited engine availability.
What powers it?
On the European market, the only available engine for the Toyota Land Cruiser 2018 is a 2.8-liter turbocharged inline-four diesel. With 177 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque, this is not exactly the most powerful on the market. Even so, the engine is enough for the SUV to tow up to 3,000 kg in its top-tier configuration. The interesting fact is the manual gearbox version of the car which has slightly less torque, but it can tow slightly more than the six-speed automatic version. Some markets from the Middle East and Easter Europe will also get two petrol engines. There is a well known 2.7 liter naturally aspirated inline-four with 164 horsepower. On top of that Toyota will also offer a 4.0 liter naturally aspirated V6 with 249 horsepower.
Toyota Land Cruiser 2018 Upgrades – Inside and Out
There is a selection of three different differential modes now including a Torsen LSD version which will allow the SUV to handle the terrain all by itself. On top of that, Toyota added things like adaptive cruise control, a pre-collision system, lane departure warning as well as road sign assist. All of these now come as standard across all versions of the car. There are also a few optional ones such as rear cross traffic alert as well as a tire pressure monitoring system. The exterior of the SUV is also slightly more upmarket with a few design cues taken straight out of its larger sibling.
MAY 29, 2017 NEWS: What seems to be the latest trend among car manufacturers is that before of the release of some vehicle there ought to be some leaked information. The same case is with Japanese manufacturer Toyota. The Aichi-based company lost track of some photos that show Toyota Land Cruiser 2018 (Prado), or what it should look like when it undergoes a facelift. The changes are the gravest up front, where we can say a slight redesign happened. The headlights are all-new, and they no longer extend to the lower end of the front fascia.
The grille continues to be bulky, chrome-made, but now it blends more nicely with lighting clusters. The later ones are now blacked out and look more technologically packed. The LED lights are standard on all trims, at least in Japan.
The grille that we already mentioned, now has a new design, and it features more slots than before. Chrome is now more pronounced than before adding to the SUV’s luxury look. In the lower end of the front fascia, there is bumper which also has adopted a new style, and fog lights on the end of it now have a different shape. On old models, they were round, but now are vertical. From what we can see so far most of the front end of the SUV has been restyled.
At the back, not so much. From these leaked photos we couldn’t notice too many changes. From the first look taillights and tailgate look almost the same. Some minor tweaks give the impression that some redesigning has been done. But, all in all at the back, in small traces changes are found here and there. Nothing much has changed with the rear bumper. This piece of 2018 Toyota Land Cruiser was carried over from the ongoing model.
Interior
The changes won’t be applied only to the exterior. On the inside, Toyota ought to make some improvements. The center console is reserved for the new 8-inch infotainment system. Also, HVAC vents will now have a different layout. The changes will probably be more thorough than these that we just mentioned, but that is not something that we can conjure up from photos that we have at our disposal. Some of the loudest rumors claim that the steering wheel is going to be new. In addition, there will be a full backpack of the latest safety and driving features.
Toyota Land Cruiser 2018 Price and Release Date
The revised 2018 Toyota Land Cruiser will make its debut in Japan, probably at Tokyo Auto Show, later this year. This show is on schedule in September. The worldwide debut will happen on a later date, most likely during this year. As far as the production and sales are concerned the rumors say the following. The first one will probably start this year while the later one will happen during the first months of 2018.
We have these photos, and quite a few information that we have gathered but the price is not one of them. More will be known as the 2018 Land Cruiser approaches its release date. Current edition starts at $84,700 which is quite high for this segment. This pricing could change with the upcoming model, where the entry price would be lowered, and this would be compensated with a higher rate on top trim models.
FEB 07, 2017 REVIEW: Released back in 2007, the current Land Cruiser is not exactly a new car. Even though it is nearly a decade old, it still is a favorite among many thanks to the level of comfort it offers and the pure off-road ability is boosted. However, because it is quite old it seems that it will not be kept on the market for much longer. In fact, the Toyota Land Cruiser 2018 is expected to be the last model of this generation. Because of that, it may hit the market with a few more interesting trim levels which should make it even more desirable than before.
Platform and Running Gear
The body-on-frame structure of the ongoing generation will stay for this small facelift. Also, the running gear is very likely not going to change all that much. However, like we said, Toyota may offer a special version. Some rumors suggested that the last model of the current Land Cruiser would get a TRD Pro version. This would get to use better Bilstein shocks, stiffer springs, a higher ground clearance as well as new wheels and tires.
The price for the base model of the Toyota Land Cruiser 2018 is likely going to hover around $80,000, just like the current car. The TRD, on the other hand, could cost in excess of $100,000, especially if it would get to be a limited edition car. Take into account though that the TRD model has yet to be confirmed by Toyota. This upcoming model is expected to be launched during the mid-2017.
Design of New 2018 Land Cruiser
The Toyota Land Cruiser 2018 is not going to be all that different from the current model. Up front, the car will continue to use the newly revised from the end. This has a larger hexagonal grille and new headlights which also include a part of the grille. The car is a lot more in line with Toyota’s other cars but in our opinion, it doesn’t look like a car that costs as much as it. The rumored TRD model would likely follow the usual TRD look with the beefier tires, higher ground clearance, and likely striking color scheme.
Interior
No matter what model people are going to choose, the new Toyota Land Cruiser 2018 is going to look the same. The car will continue to offer a cabin upholstered in fine leather, real wood, and aluminum. This has been one of the main selling points of the car for years and it will continue to be in the future. The only change here might be the infotainment system which could be upgraded to Toyota’s latest offering.
Toyota Land Cruiser 2018 Engine and Transmission
For years, the Land Cruiser has been offering only a single engine choice for the US market even though other countries received more. The 2018 Toyota Land Cruiser will make no exception. In the US the car will continue to offer the same 5.7 liters naturally aspirated V8 as before. Currently, this engine makes 381 horsepower and 401 lb-ft of torque which is in the lower part of its class. However, the engine will be mated to an eight-speed automatic which is smooth, fast and quite easy to drive fast.
Like before, a standard four-wheel drive system with lockable differentials will be available. Like we said, there is also the rumored TRD version of the car. So far it still is unclear if it will ever be made. However, this could use the same engine and transmission but a slightly better all-wheel drive system. The 2018 model of the Land Cruiser will also continue to offer the 4.6-liter V8 petrol engine as well as the 4.5 liters turbocharged V8 diesel in some markets. Both of these are less powerful than the larger 5.7-liter engine but both of them are considerably more efficient.
