Forester is far from its peak and is struggling to survive on the market. It is a compact crossover and this market has been saturated for quite some time. Sale of the Forester is nearly halved and the Japanese company must find new ways of keeping their customers. With 2018 Subaru Forester they might achieve their goal. However, there is scarce information about this model and the only thing we have are rumors. Although new Forester might look a bit different, we thought it would be interesting to write one of the first reviews of this car.
2018 Subaru Forester Release Date and Price
Unfortunately, there are no clear indications when new Forester is going to be launched. In our assumption release won’t happen before the end of 2017. On the other hand, we can say few things about the price. Base model should cost around $21,000. You do not believe this crossover will be so cheap. If you check prices of other Subaru cars, you will change your mind.
Forester introduced nearly 20 years ago, and since then it’s had several ups and downs. Currently, the popularity of this crossover is going downward spiral, but people at Subaru hope they can change this trend. The fourth generation came out in 2012, and all members of this generation have longitudinal front-engine and four-wheel drive. A six-speed manual transmission is there as well. So far all members of this generation used either a 2.0l or a 2.5l, but we’ll see in the following paragraph what might be hidden under the hood of the upcoming model.

Engine and Specs of Subaru Forester 2018
There are many ongoing debates what engine is going to be used in the 2018 Subaru Forester. However, currently, there are no indications that new engine will be introduced. This means that the 2.0 liter and the 2.5 liter will still continue to power this compact crossover. We don’t want to hide our disappointment, but we know this is just a rumor and there are still no official announcements. At this moment we can only discuss the current lineup.
The standard engine is the 2.5-liter four-cylinder with an ability to generate 170 hp and the same amount of torque. The second option can deliver way more power and torque than the first one. The 2.0 liter comes with an output of 250 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. At this point, we are uncertain about fuel consumption. It is quite possible that Subaru is going to use lightweight materials which would lead to better fuel efficiency. There are some indications about a 1.6-liter, but you shouldn’t take this to the bank. We want to be careful with this information as well as with details about the transmission and driving system. However, it is most likely that new Subaru Forester 2018 won’t change the driving system and Forester will have AWD once again.
Exterior and Interior
There are no reliable details about the exterior of the 2018 Subaru Forester. However, some interesting rumors might come true. Reportedly 2018 model should get an entirely new platform. There are some indications that Subaru is working on a new platform for Forester which should be more rigid than the previous one. Apart from this, it should be lighter thanks to new materials, and this could lead to improved fuel economy. Unfortunately, this is all we can tell regarding exterior and we must hold our horses for additional details.
Luckily there are more details about the cabin than about the exterior. Apparently, it is going to be more interesting than before. The current model has that dull gray color, but that is about to change with the 2018 Subaru Forester. The alleged cabin will be equipped with fewer buttons than before and it will be more functional. We just need to wait and see all features this crossover is going to have.
